The Chinese wisterias are in bloom.
I have loved this spectacular spring-blooming vine since I was a child. This must have been a very popular vine in the 50’s and 60’s because I seem to remember seeing it growing in nearly every neighborhood. We had a next door neighbor who had a large arbor that was covered with wisteria flowers. I remember thinking that this looked so romantic.
I do not have any of this wisteria in my garden since it is just too rampant, but the neighbor across the street has it, so I get to enjoy it without worrying it will take over.
Every morning when I leave to go to work, this view is the first thing I see as I walk out the front door. Such a lovely sight.

They are all over here right now too, decorating the roadways and strangling various structures. I’m sure they are probably a bit invasive too but they sure do look pretty!

Those are beautiful. You don’t see wisteria around New Orleans so much. I guess there are too many smaller lots, and some people are afraid of large trees in high winds. The live oaks are an exception, but I don’t think wisteria and live oak would be a good combination. It needs to be on tall, upright trees. Live oaks deserve to have its structure visible.

When we lived in Holland our neighbors had this vine and it was amazing .. that was the only time I have seen this in real life .. living in the Netherlands was pure magic seeing stunning gardens and gorgeous plants .. something I will never forget .. this reminded me of it so I just had to stop and comment girl ! LOL

I love the wisteria too. The scent will make you swoon with pleasure. I have thought about getting one this year and putting it on the fence but you reminded me how aggressive they are in their growth.

I’m another fan of wisteria who is not game to plant one in her garden for fear of it taking over! But I agree that they are so very pretty and have a lovely scent to match.

They are really pretty to look at and to smell. Nothing beats their beauty in the spring.
