I hope everyone had a glorious Christmas Day, and that it was everything you expected. Here, we had a great brunch with our daughter and son-in-law and later dinner with dear hubby’s sisters. Sunday we will celebrate Christmas with my side of the family.
I like it when the Christmas season extends past December 25 which is one of the reasons I do not decorate the house too early. I am a firm believer in the 12 days of Christmas which do not end until January 6th.

It’s funny how so many people seem to think the twelve days of Christmas ends on the 25th. I think Christmas is the first day as well. Isn’t that what Epihany is all about? I wish the feeling people share at Christmas time could be spread throughout the whole year.

That makes for a nice holiday when you are able to extend it pass just one day. Glad you had a nice Christmas Jan. 🙂

Cinj, I guess most people think it ends on the 25th because so many stores start the Christmas season so early (sometimes before Halloween). I remember when I was little my parents didn’t even get a Christmas tree until the weekend closest to the 15th of December and didn’t take it down until the Epiphany. It would be nice if we could extend the Christmas feeling throughout the year.
Racquel, it is nice to spread the holiday cheer out past Christmas Day. It is so much easier to relax and enjoy the time after the hectic part of preparation for Christmas is over.

I’m so glad someone else feels the same way about making the magic last! Christmas ends for me on Jan 6th as well — our tree never comes down before that. This year, our Christmas truly IS spread out over a longer period with younger daughter and grandson unable to come home until weekend after New Years.

Nancy, I, too, thought I was the only one who tries to keep the 12 days of Christmas. It is good to know others feel the same way. You will surely be extending the holidays until your daughter visits, and I know you won’t mind doing that.

Glad to hear you had a great Christmas Jan. We did too, but the decorations need to come down now like yesterday, but relaxing and celebrating still go on. Have fun at your folks house.

I love the idea of celebrating 12 Days of Christmas, although we don’t do it.

Thank you for mentioning these facts, Jan! As a child, my parents did not put up the tree until Christmas Eve! It was so magical waking up Christmas morning and seeing all the sparkle and glitter! We always put decorations up a bit late, also…but at least a week before Christmas I am finished with most things. That way, I just enjoy the beauty and don’t worry about getting things done (other than baking and cooking:)). We usually take our things down right after New Years…often though, it’s the weekend after, because on New Years Day we are still enjoying things! I’ll think a bit about this when it’s time to take things down, and consider the 12 days of Christmas as you’ve explained it:) Merry Christmas, happy new year! Jan

Thanks, Tina. I won’t be taking down my decorations until the Sunday after New Year’s at the earliest. I didn’t put up as many this year, so it won’t be too time consuming. The last few years, I have been taking them down the Sunday after New Year’s because once I go back to work, it just seems there isn’t time to do anything.
Kylee, thanks for the good wishes. In the New Orleans area, the Mardi Gras season starts on January 6th, so it seems to be a little easier for us to celebrate the full Christmas season.
Jan, I can imagine how magical that must have been to awaken to a decorated tree. That is how my mother’s parents did it, too. I think it is nice to keep decorations up at least through New Year’s because it seems to extend the Christmas season and the good feelings that accompany it.
